A life time resident of Michigan, Debora grew up in a family greatly interested in nature. Her grandmother was an art teacher and helped develop her interest in painting. By age eight Debora was already beginning to show talent. In high school she was taken from basic art and placed into advanced classes.
Debora began painting using many different mediums. As her skills developed, she became interested in water colors. Even though she continues using oils, most of her wildlife work consist of watercolors, prints of her watercolors, clay sculpture, and copper plate etching. One of Debora's most recent endeavors has been her very popular Hand Carved Wooded Feathers. They are sold both as stand alone framed and matted pieces and can also be ordered as windowed inserts, ("remarks") with her framed and matted prints.
After working in Detroit as a commercial artist she and her husband, Ben (whose Nature Photography can be found on this site) moved to Lapeer. Ben is a biologist and Resident Director of Eastern Michigan University's Environmental Education Center. This setting helps to provide an endless supply of subject matter to study, paint, and photograph for both Deb and Ben.
Debora's paintings have won several awards and hang in many galleries and private collections. She has won Best of Show at the Caro Summer Fair, and the Dun Dee Art Fair. Debora was the featured Artist at the Rogers City Wildlife Art & Carving Show, the Presque Isle County Art Association, and a Sierra Clubs International Seminar in Ann Arbor. She is a two time winner of the Judges Excellence Award at the Northern Wildlife Art Expo.
